All in the PastI have always been intrigued by vintage photographs of people. I am curious about that one “moment in time” when each photo was taken. It seems bittersweet to wonder what was going on in that person’s life at that time in their lives.
As a feminist, I appreciate the struggle that women especially, have experienced in gaining personal power and equality. I really enjoy the “Flappers” of the 1920’s. They were the young women who showed their legs in short skirts, cut off their hair, wore excessive makeup and jewelry, drank, smoked, drove cars and had sex before marriage. It was an exciting time for women. Unfortunately, it did not last. So I think of it as a golden time in history. Hence, all the great vintage photographs from that era. |

Anytime an artist/painter works from photographs, there is a challenge to “abstract” the essence of the photo and use it as an inspiration or enhancement of the artist’s work. Vintage photos are especially challenging as the viewer is not generally familiar with the time period placement. The small child in me loves the old clothing, especially the hats. Throw in an old car and that really floats my boat.
